EURECA
RWE is one of Europe’s leading energy companies, headquartered in Germany but also very present in Italy. RWE launched the project "We Create Energy," a campaign allowing citizens to invest up to €5,000 in renewable energy projects with an 8% return. This initiative fosters public participation in sustainable energy, making it accessible and financially rewarding, contributing to the European Union's climate goals
How It Works
RWE realizes a wind farm in San Severo. The peculiarity of this project is that the investment is shared with the community and citizens can invest up to a maximum of €5,000 in the project. So in this way, plants that are usually promoted and built by large companies, become participatory for citizens. Participants invest in wind farms, receiving stable returns backed by long-term energy contracts. RWE ensures transparency, providing real-time updates on project progress.
Key Benefits
1. Financial Returns – Investors earn an 8% annual return, outperforming traditional savings options.
2. Environmental Impact – Supporting renewable projects helps reduce carbon emissions and align with EU climate goals.
3. Community Engagement – Citizens play an active role in the clean energy transition.
4. Job Creation – The initiative boosts local economies by creating jobs in energy infrastructure.
5. Agricultural Continuity – Farmers can continue working their land while benefiting from additional income.
A Scalable Model
"We Create Energy" sets a precedent for citizen-driven energy projects, promoting shared energy responsibility. As it expands, it will empower more people to take part in the green transition, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable future.

● SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): The creation of the Wind Farm addresses the goal by promoting affordable and clean energy solutions through the installation of wind turbines and the shared property.
● SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): The project directly contributes to sustainable infrastructure development. Furthermore, the installation of these systems does not cause a reduction in cultivable surfaces.
● SDG 13 (Climate Action): The initiative directly aligns with climate action goals through the adoption of renewable energy sources.
● SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): The collaboration between a multinational company and the local community demonstrates a direct partnership for achieving sustainable development.
Indirect Links:
● SDG 1 (No Poverty): The shared production of energy helps community to produce wealth for the community
● SDG 4 (Quality Education): The practice indirectly contributes to quality education for fostering awareness about sustainable practices among the citizens.
● SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): The project contributes to make communities more sustainable by a community-led transition to renewable energy.
The RWE wind farm project in San Severo, is directly aligned with SDG 7 by introducing innovative solutions to the community's energy needs. Through the installation of wind turbines owned also by the community, the project will produce 54MW and will provide green energy to 55.000 families, contributing significantly to the goal of sustainable energy for all.
This project demonstrates how a renewable energy project, even if’ driven by large companies, can bring great benefits to rural communities who usually experience these plants as an invasion.
1. What benefits does the San Severo Wind Farm provide to families in the region as consumers and investors?)
2. How does the RWE Multinational Company influence the ecological awareness and the behavior of the Foggia’s community in energy consumption?
3. How can the people participate to the construction of the wind park, and what are the ecological and financial benefits for the participants of the project?
